Ian, Chairman, talking about the year to date. Essex Club of the Year award, plus LTA Clubmark standard. Good work to the committee.

The new website gets a mention 🙂

Big news. New shed. And Summer House.

This year we applied for, and achieved some grants from the LTA. A number of committee members met with the LTA. Grants for the Summer House and Website were achieved and we are looking to get some more for junior equipment.

Membership has increased for both Full members and Juniors. Which has led to record revenue this year. Grants, coaching and membership have made contributions.

Now to the presentations:

Most improved Men’s player award:

Team results:

A couple of relegations for the men’s teams. Ladies’ 1 came 4th in Div 1.

All mixed teams came second. Mixed 1, 2nd in Div 1. Mixed 2, 2nd in Div 2. Mixed 3, 2nd in Div 3 – promoted to Div 2. Mixed 4, 2nd in Div 4 – promoted to Div 3.

Now to Membership reports (Clive).

184 Members. Categories that have improved are Under 25 and coaching mainly.

We are investigating an online membership process where members can pay online and reminded automatically of renewals and the Membership Secretary will be mainly be working on new memberships.

Junior Membership report (Christian):

Best year since Christian has been at the club. Lots of Junior members. The revised fee structure for the Juniors has had good take up and great cadet membership – Matt Hills, Neil, Charlie all playing well.

We have started a performance group on Fridays where we cherry pick the better players for advanced coaching. We run Aegon Competitions for Juniors.

For Adults groups on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the coaching categories are well attended.

Cardio Tennis has been very successful. A core of 10-12 ladies have been coming who are obviously now considering joining the club.

Lots of discussions about the coaching category. Trying to ensure that these potential members progress into the club as and where they can.

Financial Summary (Peter):

Accounts are circulated. Any questions on the accounts? None.

Now to questions from the floor. Any questions? Peter is working for an account that gives controls. NatWest will be bringing one in at a future date. The reporting accountant and the committee are happy with the current controls.

Questions re grounds. Drag nets are expensive – GBP400. Key code for shed will be given to the team captains to enable them access to the leaf blower. Groundsman will hopefully come later to clear leaves for social and matches.

The new balls are slightly cheaper. They don’t seem to hold up so well on wet courts.

Now we move to committee proposals:

Subscription increases – 2.5% increase. Full membership will next year cost GBP210.

More questions about coaching category – questions re the difference in pricing between coaching and full membership. It was mentioned that it is a good recruitment area – especially for ladies’ tennis members.

Now to club rules amendment. We work to an LTA template. The changes are really housekeeping changes – the workings of the committee, setting objectives, differentiating between full membership and coaching (in terms of voting rights) and club policies re safe guarding child protection, photography, fair play, etiquette, etc.

Now to discussion topics. Future plans for the club to start with. Plan is to replace courts every ten years. We have also asked the minister about lighting of court 3. The committee has looked into a full court after court 5, but it didn’t seem to have a good business case. However, a knock up area/warm up area is being reviewed.

We requested Sunday morning play on courts 4 and 5, but the minister feels that it is his role to promote Sunday church attendance.

Discussing about how to pay for visitors fees and also how to improve social play attendance.
