Press Release – Finals Day Set To Be A Big One For Rising Star

3rd May 2015

Local Tennis Club hosts Finals of Summer Tournaments

Hutton and Shenfield Tennis Club are hosting their annual Finals Day this Saturday 5th September (weather permitting!) A total of ten different competitions and cups have been played throughout the summer and the climax of all of these tournaments is the Finals Day.

One of the highlights the Men’s Singles Final. Over the course of the last few years, one of the club’s junior players, John Coyle (15) has steadily progressed further in the Men’s tournament losing a closely fought semi-final last year. This year he has made it to the final, and to add spice to the fixture, he is up against the Club’s Head Coach – Christian Allen.

Christian is not taking anything for granted. He said: “John is one of our standout junior members and I am looking forward to playing him in the final. I am concerned that my aging limbs won’t be able to match his youth, but we’ll see.”

Finals Day is an event for all different grades of players – there is a Mixed Family Doubles, Mixed Handicap Doubles and Veterans’ competitions along with the marquee finals of the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Ladies’ Mixed Doubles.

The day is usually well attended by most members with a barbeque provided and other games and activities.

Chairman of the club, Ian Gunn, said: “The Finals Day is really the culmination of a lot of effort and hard work by the players throughout the Summer season. It really brings the Summer to a close and we then look forward to the Stock Winter League.”
