Press Release – Local Club Wins Prestigious County Award

7th April 2016

Local Tennis Club recognised for development and progress

Hutton and Shenfield Tennis Club have been recognised by the Essex Lawn Tennis Association (Essex LTA) as their County Club of the Year Winner of the Aegon British Tennis Award.

The Aegon British Tennis Awards are a celebration of the people and places that deliver participation and competition. The LTA, Tennis Foundation and Aegon launched the awards in September 2015 to say ‘thank you’.

The Awards are a way of celebrating the 25,000 volunteers who provide their time for free to support the game of tennis, increasing opportunities to play, compete and perform.

The Awards recognise great work at county, regional and national level with prizes awarded to the winners at each stage. The national winners will be invited to a star-studded ceremony in London in June 2016 to recognise their achievements.

Hutton and Shenfield were recognised specifically for their work in the community, promoting the game of tennis, allowing free fun days at the club supporting our local church open days and also promoting and supporting a local Breast Cancer Charity.

LTA President Cathie Sabin, who has championed the opportunity to thank tennis volunteers, launched the Awards. “If it wasn’t for the selfless efforts of the people who run the clubs, centres and parks we simply would not be able to offer tennis to everyone who would like to play,” Cathie commented. “I have long believed that everyone who helps to deliver, develop and promote British Tennis should be thanked, acknowledged and rewarded for everything they do on our behalf.”

Ian Gunn, Chairman of Hutton and Shenfield Tennis Club said, “This award is a fantastic achievement and recognition for all the hard work the committee, coaches and members of the club have put in over the course of the year. Despite a national trend of reduction in the level of interest in tennis, our club continues to thrive and add new members.”
