About Us

We are your local tennis club, social, friendly and competitive.

We were established in 1920 and have over 200 adult and around 190 junior members using five AstroTurf courts, four with floodlights. The Club and courts can be found in Brockley Grove at the junction with Roundwood Avenue on the Hutton Mount Estate. We are located next to but not directly linked to the church.

cluboftheyear

In 2016 the Club won the Essex Club of the year in recognition of the range of tennis activities provided, how the Club was run and our engagement with the local community.

We cater for various standards, from those interested in serious match play to those happy with just social tennis. The Club aims to promote an environment in which everyone enjoys their tennis at a fantastic location.

As an adult beginner or improver you can join in as a “Coaching Category” member. So, if you’ve always wanted to play tennis, with free time during the day or evening, get in contact!

If you’re a more advanced player, then full membership would meet your needs. This gives extended access to the courts, either for social on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon, participation in the competitive eights on Monday evening or playing for the many men’s and ladies teams we run. There are also a number of organised fixed fours and mixed doubles that you can participate in.

As a junior, from ages 4 to 18, there are a range of activities. Junior coaching takes place every weekday from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday mornings from 9am to 12noon and you are graded based on age and standard. Also, you can sign up for the fantastic camps we run during the school holidays.

The club has a full fixture calendar with ladies, men’s, mixed and veteran league matches throughout the year. We also have friendly matches with local clubs and arrange our own social tournaments.

Coaching is a vital part of the club and coaching sessions can be arranged for new and current members either on an individual basis or with a group by contacting the Head Coach.

The courts are available for play Monday to Saturday, from 8.30am to 10.00pm. On Sundays and Good Friday, play is from 1pm to 5.30pm. The floodlights on the courts may be used up to 10pm on every day except Sunday.

We have an active social programme ranging from curry nights, wine tasting, quiz nights, lunches, weekend tennis trips and visits to watch tennis.  So there’s something for everyone!

Hutton and Shenfield Tennis Club are proud to support several local charities including Breast Cancer at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Saint Francis Hospice at Havering- Atte- Bower. We schedule fund-raising events – both tennis and non-tennis related.

The tennis club is affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association and receives support and guidance from the local organisation – the Essex County Lawn Tennis Association.
