Hutton and Shenfield Tennis in Tier 4

The Government announced the introduction of Tier 4 which now applies to Essex. As always, we take our guidance from the LTA and although tennis can continue, it is subject to the following changes effective Sunday, December, 20th and until further notice.

  • Singles play is only permitted with one person from another household.
  • Doubles play is not allowed unless with people from the same household bubble
  • One on one coaching is allowed
  • Group coaching not allowed for adults but is allowed for juniors (under 18’s) with no group size larger than 15
  • No socialising before or after any activity
  • No spectating unless parent or guardian supervising a child
  • Social tennis is not allowed and the courts will be opened up for individual booking
  • Eights will stop and the courts opened up for individual booking
  • Court booking time to be limited to 2 hours per person per day
  • Please cancel your court if it is no longer needed. If you don’t, the Court Police may be after you!
  • Inter club league matches are cancelled until further notice
  • The singles box league will continue and now will finish on Sunday, January 31st.
  • The Club Room and toilet will remain open but access is limited to one in and one out except for coaches that need to accompany juniors. It remains open only for access to the toilets, first aid kit, defribulator and tennis balls. No coffees or social gatherings allowed in the Clubroom. The summer house will remain shut.

Because of the virulence and transmitting powers of the latest version of Covid-19, it is now more important than ever you stick to preventative measures required by the LTA.

Self-Assessment Check: Before leaving home to play tennis, all members and persons planning to visit the tennis club should undergo a self-assessment check for any COVID-19 symptoms. These symptoms include high temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste or smell and anyone displaying these symptoms, or if anyone in the household displays such symptoms, then the member should remain at home and follow NHS and PHE guidance on self-isolation.

NHS Covid-19 App. We recommend you download the app from https://covid19.nhs.uk/  and check in and scan when you arrive at the Club using the QR codes placed on the Club door, Summer House and Bus shelter. The app helps us to stay safe by tracing those who may have come into contact with someone with Covid-19. A process for handling a case of someone testing positive at the Club is under the rules and policies section on the website.

Sanitise and Socially Distance and don’t spectate  Please use the sanitiser provided on arrival and when leaving the courts. Remain socially distanced at all times and try to avoid congregating in groups. Spray the benches and tennis balls with disinfectant when leaving.  Don’t spectate unless you are supervising a child.

Tennis balls, nets and benches.  Although not required under LTA and Government guidelines, we feel it is appropriate to recommend that wherever possible, you use your own tennis balls marked with your initials. We will be providing some tennis balls for your own use in the Club room. Should you wish to continue to use the tennis balls for general use provided by the club, you can do so but please sanitise the balls with the cleansing spray in the Clubroom before and after play.  We recommend you do not adjust the nets or touch the net handles. Should you do so, please ensure that you use the spray provided and sanitise the handles and any part of the net you have touched and the benches if you have put your bag on it.

We continue to maintain the Tennis Club as a safe place to play. However, we can only do this with your assistance. Given the rise in the number of cases, especially locally, please take extra care, maintain social distance at all times, avoid touching your face and wash your hands and sanitise regularly. As previously stated, you do play tennis entirely at your own risk.

We’re sorry to have to restrict your use of the courts but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s in everyone’s interest and at least we can enjoy some exercise playing tennis.

Thank you for your support.

Best Wishes

The Tennis Committee
